Haskayne alumnus named volunteer of the year

Thomas Lui, BComm'06, has been recognized by PricewaterhouseCoopers as the 2008 PWC Calgary Volunteer of the Year for his outstanding community work with Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

He didn’t know it at the time, but David Parkinson’s career was determined during a quick conversation with his dad in the mid-1980s. The Globe and Mail investment writer had just transferred from commerce to psychology and his concerned father was asking about job prospects with a BA.

Stereotypes suggest that a dance school owner with the confidence to negotiate a lease with a landlord that happens to be a law firm would be rare, but Mandi Sutherland Olivier did just that to secure her studio space last year—thanks to her own atypical background as a lawyer and dancer.
