Simulation software for oil and gas

Aziz Computer Modeling Group

U of C Wealth Creation: $36million

Foundation brought U of C researchers and industry together

Historically, the U of C is recognized for the positive impact of its software products, including the development of simulation software in the oil and gas industry.

In 1978, The Computer Modeling Group (CMG) was spun out from the U of C as a not-for-profit entity following the research of Dr. Khalid Aziz, a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Major oil companies participated with CMG by paying annual fees in exchange for specific technology rights. In time, the research foundation expanded and membership grew to create the current for-profit, publicly traded Computer Modeling Group Ltd. (CMG: TSX).
