Being a current students at the U of C means you have access to a number of world class recreational facilities and options. A few are listed below

The University of Calgary Health & Recreation Centre, Fitness Centre offers many programs and services designed to encourage healthy participation in a variety of activities. The goal for the Fitness Centre is to provide an opportunity for participants to improve or maintain their health and vitality through a variety of activities and programs. The Facility


The physical facility offers members 3750m2 of space with the most extensive, current and easy to use fitness equipment found at a Canadian university. Well trained, certified staff are available to assist the participant in becoming familiar with the facility and equipment.


Programs & Courses


The campus recreation programs are offered by fitness and allied health professionals, and include everything from beginner fitness classes to challenging advanced level programs. We offer weight management, yoga, personal fitness training and nutritional analysis; studio cycling for all levels; introductory to advanced strength training and walk/run courses... there is something for everyone! Swimming


You're never too young or too old to learn a new trick. The Aquatic Centre offers a variety of open recreation activities, fitness programs, swimming lessons and certification courses for infants to adults. Wall Climbing


The University of Calgary Climbing Wall is located within the Outdoor Centre and is specifically designed to mimic real rock as closely as possible. This makes it ideal for teaching climbing & mountaineering skills. A few of its features include:

  • Molded concrete panels, complete with real quartzite blocks.
  • Realistic features make our wall the closest thing to climbing on real rock. Vertical and horizontal cracks, finger holds, first jams, small edges, friction bulges and other rock features provide face-climbing challenges on each panel.
  • Skills such as rappelling, setting anchors, lead climbing, rock and crevasse rescue techniques can be easily practiced.

Racquet Courts


The Racquet Centre at the University of Calgary Health & Recreation Centre boasts 13 international squash courts, 5 international racquetball courts, 4 seasonal outdoor tennis courts, and as many as 10 open recreation badminton courts (6 in the afternoon, 10 in the evening). Dinos


The University of Calgary Athletic Department was created in 1964 with male teams named the Dinosaurs and female teams the Dinnies. Both genders eventually came to play under the Dinosaurs name until 1998 when the nickname was officially changed to 'Dinos,' the nickname familiar to athletes, students, and fans. Since 1964, the Dinos have brought home 110 Canada West Conference Championships and 32 CIS National Championships. The Dinos consist of 22 teams competing in 12 varsity sports (Men's & Women's - basketball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, swimming, wrestling, track & field, cross county running, tennis, golf, men's football and women's field hockey).
