Regardless of what motivates volunteers to donate their time and talent, their efforts touch people’s lives and help strengthen the community. The Students' Union Volunteer Services (SUVS) helps to make a difference in the general community and at the University iteslf.

Since its inception in 1990, SUVS has been an important presence on campus, fostering goodwill and responding to the needs of students. Not only does it provide direction to undergraduates wishing to volunteer, many of its nine programs serve students and the campus community at large.

SUVS Opportunities - Includes: Administrative Volunteer Program, Alternative Spring Break, Campus Food Bank, Dr. Seuss in the Park, Homework Hangout, Information Centre, Into the Streets, Students for Literacy, Volunteer Tax Program.

Located in our office in 225 MSC, the on-campus posting board makes available information on volunteer opportunities that exist in other departments around campus.

Clubs

In the absence of enthusiastic guidance counselors and well-meaning English teachers attempting to bolster your initiative to “get involved!” it’s surprisingly easy to find yourself doing that anonymous university drone thing. You know who you are. Yes, you attend classes and may exchange a few words with the person sitting next to you, but where are the budding life-long friendships? Where are the magic moments where you finally find someone who shares your passion for human rights? Or maybe just tikki bars? If U of C is not turning out to be bastion of good times you were expecting, there is a painless cure for what ails you.

LibraryMeeting people is easy. Whether you want to compare notes with students in your faculty, meet members of your ethnic community, or share a Hallmark moment with those who also enjoy smashing pianos, there is likely an SU club for you. And if there isn’t, why not take a page from the book of Max Fischer and start one? Or twelve? There is still no Beekeeping Club, Loathers of the Gilmore Girls Club, or Disaffected Cardigan Wearers’ Society.

See all the SU Clubs available, and look out for Clubs Week at the beginning of the semester.
