Effective July 7, 2008, the University has discontinued the use of credit cards as a form of payment for tuition and general fees. The University is redirecting money previously spent on credit card company fees to student financial aid: an estimated $500,000 for undergraduates and $250,000 for graduate students in the first year.
The University recognizes the importance of minimizing the impact on students and in recent consultations with student leaders the University has initiated the folowing:
- We have established relationships with major banks and other financial institutions to create expedited on-line fund transfer system or other mechanisms for payment. For example, students can already pay tuition account through online banking as if they are paying a utility bill by contacting their financial institution to ensure they are set up for online/telephone banking. The University is currently listed with:
- ATB Financial
- Bank of Montreal (BMO)
- CIBC
- First Calgary Savings
- Royal Bank (RBC)
- Scotiabank
- TD Canada Trust
- Alberta, BC & Ontario Credit Unions
- The University is in the process of adding other financial institutions.
- An appeals process has been created for those unable to complete the fee payment process by the deadline
- We will be adding staff to help at Service Stop for those wishing to pay in person in September and January.
- We will be communicating directly with students as the new session starts informing them of fee payment options.
