Royal Society of Canada honours U of C professors

University of Calgary President Harvey Weingarten, Vice-President (Research) Rose Goldstein and Associate Vice-President (Research) Gary Libben joined U of C researchers Peter Tieleman and Arthur Frank at the Royal Society of Canada's 2008 awards banquet on November 15.

Med professor emeritus receives Royal College award

The University of Calgary’s Dr. John Parboosingh was honoured Friday by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Parboosingh was presented with the Duncan Graham Award, in recognition of his outstanding lifelong contribution to medical education.

SPE Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal

Dr. Tony Settari is the 2008 recipient of the Society of Petroleum Engineers' Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal. The Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal is the SPE’s major technical award. The award recognizes those responsible for developing new technology and concepts and demonstrating distinguished achievement in improving the technique and practice of finding and producing petroleum.

Bringing science and research into undergraduate classrooms

Leslie Reid's passion for teaching has earned her the U of C's first-ever Tamaratt Teaching Professorship in Geoscience, a new position that will allow her to improve the way science is taught.
Instead of the usual lectures, exams and lab assignments, she uses video footage of her colleagues in the field, team-based approaches and questions to get her students thinking and tackling problems like scientists.

Calgary recognizes U of C excellence

The City of Calgary is recognizing several members of the University of Calgary community for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to improving quality of life in Calgary.

Eight of the 16 Calgary Awards will go to U of C graduates, professors, researchers and supporters. Dr. Garnette Sutherland will be awarded the Signature Award for his work on the revolutionary neuroArm project, a key element in the U of C's burgeoning biomedical engineering initiative. >> more
